Repair Down Syndrome Kid Heart

My 4-year-old son, Elyas, had open-heart surgery when he was just 5 months old. Before his surgery, he had one large hole and three smaller holes in his heart. His doctors operated on him at NYU in New York City, and he made it through a five-day recovery.

Now, years later, we’re facing new challenges. Elyas has been experiencing heart complications because his heart was not able to be completely closed during surgery. At the time of his operation, the surgeon’s main goal was to fully close the large hole and, if possible, close all three of the smaller holes as well. However, due to swelling during the procedure, the doctor was only able to close two of the three smaller holes.

Today, with these complications, Elyas has been having chest pain and difficulty with his breathing, and it has been incredibly frightening and heartbreaking for our family.

I’m looking for help with sharing to support Elyas’s growing medical bills. The costs are adding up quickly because of the number of doctor visits and hospital stays he has been going through.

Right now, his doctors are exploring options to avoid another surgery, but we’re still waiting for answers and don’t yet know what the best path will be. Any support, prayers, shares, or donations would truly mean so much to our family as we navigate this.
