Career path advice
Hello all. I’m currently in my last undergraduate year of university in US majoring in biochemistry. I have been doing research in lab for about 2 years but gradually feeling uninspired due to slow nature of the work. I started to develop an interest in working in pharmacy where I can apply what I learned and bring immediate value to others, instead of reading papers and waste my days absorbing topics that I don’t see myself using in the future. I absolutely don’t want to do a PhD.
I’m leaning toward applying for pharmacy school sometime in the end of this year, but would like to gain experience first as a pharmacy technician. I’m planning to take an approved CPhT training online then take a PTCB exam this summer and maybe apply to local CVS or Walgreen to learn the gist (part-timing as I complete my final year in Biochem)
Have anyone here did a bachelor in a science program and then pursued a PharmD program? I feel like I’m having a slow start not doing traditional 6 years path (2 years prerequisite + 4 years PharmD program). I’m also worry about taking on tuition debt for the first time.
(I saved enough to pay for my 4 years undergrad thanks to scholarship and commuting, but not sure if financial aid are available/sufficient in pharmacy school)
Any stories, input, advice are appreciated. Thank you all so much.
