Hernia Repair Question

41, Female, overweight, very complex surgical history.

I’ve had multiple surgeries in my abdominal area for medical emergencies. I have two very large scars on my abdomen and am not surprised I have a hernia. Was made well aware this was a possibility in my future.

I have a very capable and competent surgeon that knows me well and is handling this with me. However, I have come to have a very strong aversion to hospitals… and particularly, me, being in them for long lengths of time. I’ve been hospitalized twice this year with life threatening issues, alone. I am very much over it. Anyways, I got a CT scan from my last/recent hospitalization that discovered my hernia in addition to a perforation.

The radiologist described it as “A broad-based supraumbilical hernia contains multiple loops of bowel”

I know only my surgeon will be able to answer this for sure but I was hoping to get some reassurance as my anxiety level is creeping up higher with each day.

I know it’s grown in size since I first started noticing a weird bulge (had a CT scan done, was told it was fine), and I know I have a very large amount of scar tissue (think 10 inch scar vertical down the center, and an 18 in scar that is jagged, starting from a g tube removal spot… following the growth of a very large abscess that wraps around my side)…

My husband keeps reassuring me that it’s an out patient surgery and routine (which I know that, but I know my history makes everything routine, not routine, and my last hospitalization about 7 weeks ago, the surgeon legit told me she was not the right person for this surgery, but she’d do it if she absolutely had to, but was very worried and rather not - and that was after being transferred there because the ER I went to, didn’t have the ability to treat me….
She and I were on the same page, no worries there).

Is something like what is described as above from the CT scan fairly straight forward and most likely out patient? I’ve never dealt with a hernia before.
