What options do I have?

A year ago, I went to my (former) GP and told them I was experiencing gender dysphoria and wanted to be referred to the local GIC. The doctor I saw I chose specifically because they were supposedly good with trans patients (which they were!) but they weren’t my usual GP, so it was hard to get back in with them.

At the start of the year, I began going private and, as of 3 months ago, I started hormones. My prescription from the private clinic had my new address on, and I only realised I hadn’t updated it with my GP when I got a call asking if I’d changed address. I told them yes, and apologised for forgetting to update them, but assured them that I was only a 5 minute drive from my previous address (family home) and that my parents passed on all of my post, so I’d never missed any correspondence as a result.

I’m renting my current place, and it’s shared, so frankly my parents address is the more secure location to have private correspondence sent to. They said it was no problem, not to worry. And I thought no more of it.

Only to receive a voicemail a couple of days after saying that I was no longer in their catchment zone and I’d need to find a new GP immediately.

I was shocked. I’ve been at that GP surgery for nearly 20 years. What’s more, when I went to the pharmacy to pick up my repeat prescription, they told me that my old GP had cancelled the script so even though they had my meds, they weren’t allowed to dispense them to me. These are meds that would be catastrophic to suddenly withdraw from, and that I have been on for a decade. Luckily, my pharmacy is amazing and helped me to get an emergency script from my new GP, but it was horrendously stressful.

I obviously have no proof, but this feels targeted. My old GP received a letter saying that my private clinician was going to request shared care if I agreed to it - despite the fact I wasn’t planning to ask them to agree to it in the first place - and immediately they severed any involvement with me. I called them back immediately after I got the voicemail essentially saying “um…huh? I just have to find a new GP like that?”

Their reasoning was really shady. Essentially, if I was in hospital and they needed to contact me, they’d have to know where to write. I’m…assuming that if I’m in hospital, you know where I am?? My partner works away, so contacting my house to get in touch with an emergency contact would be useless - not to mention, my emergency contact is my father, who lives at the address I was previously registered to which caused all this fuss.

The immediate cancellation of a repeat prescription they knew would be dangerous for me not to have access to feels particularly spiteful. Especially given that their catchment area ends 3 doors down from me. The whole thing just feels really shady, like it was just a way to avoid entering a shared care agreement I was never planning to ask them to enter into.

Do I have grounds to complain, or is there no point?

Thanks for reading this long rambly post.
