Equanimity
Once you realize the “me” narrative for what it is, and integrate this realization into your daily life, perception completely changes. Instead of “my mind”, it becomes the consciousness. The *space* in which the thoughts occur.
Instead of “I’m afraid” it’s “fear has entered the consciousness”.
Instead of “I’m so frustrated because of XYZ, this always happens to me” it’s “oh, frustration”.
Once you have the inward alertness to label these negative thoughts the very instant they arise, they kind of lose their….pull. The usual movement we’ve all come to accept is: negative thought —> negative emotion —> negative mood —> negative day/week/year/lifetime.
Once you can catch these negative thoughts and emotions instantly, then it’s no longer an unconscious movement. The negative mood never manifests because it’s like watching a magician doing a trick that you know the secret to. The magician is still gonna do its thing, but you know the exact mechanism of what’s happening, and therefore don’t get caught up in the show.
