So much hatred, why?

Question

One thing that seriously surprised me is how the average moviegoer suddenly became a fully aware expert in cinema, camera movement, shot composition, technique, and so on.

For most of the audience, it should simply be something like: “Oh, that was fun,” or “Damn, I struggled not to fall asleep.”

I watched Supergirl after several nights of barely sleeping because of the damn heat, and I was fully ready to pass out during the movie, lol.

Instead, it was surprisingly good. Maybe not one of those films that changed my life (okay, it is not Citizen Kane), but damn, I cannot only watch painfully intense Polish movies full of dramatic and symbolic meaning.

It is a superhero comic book movie, and for what it is, it is damn good.

Just to make a comparison, I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home, okay? But in terms of plot and many other strictly narrative aspects, it was honestly a total mess.

With Supergirl, I see people talking about the villain’s “impact” as if they were expert enologists judging a thousand-year-old Dom Pérignon, while one of the most successful movies at the box office was basically a well-packaged blob of fan service, lol.

So, why so much hatred for Supergirl?

Misogyny, patriarchy, bad marketing, franchise fatigue, people looking for a punching bag: I have read a lot of explanations, some better than others, but honestly, I still do not really have an answer.

This movie felt doomed before it was even released, and yes, I still do not understand why.
