Best strategy when you don’t have a skill

Hi All! I just got back into playing this game after a big pause and I forgot how much I enjoyed it. Usually my strategy is to put a cat with the same skill on my newest station and upgrade that station constantly to advance faster. I just unlocked the potato station but Im having a problem bc I don’t have a potato cat and I rerolled my skills so many times that I just gave up. For the moment I put in one of my five star cats from a maxed station on it but I, not sure if that’s the best strategy here. What do you usually do in this case?
