How do you feel about diversity in comics?

I know this question has been done to death, but I’m coming angle. Personally, I see myself no more in Mr. Terrific as I do in Batman. I’m not a genus and nowhere capable of those feats. The stories are so formulaic that if you took out the color, you wouldn’t be able to tell who’s what.

That being said it does bother me when I read people being so offended a character is black or gay or trans or whatever, if only because of how negligible a difference it makes to the story. So if you’re for it, I’m curious why? If you’re against it I’m definitely curious why? If you’re indifferent I’m curious if it’s for a reason separate to the one I listed.

I’m also asking specifically in the realm of comics whereas in other media I feel representation brings far more to the table via what the actors encapsulate.
