87% of GTM teams now use AI. 6% are getting real value from it. happy first monday of q3 to the other 81% of us

Discussion

first monday of the new quarter so let's open with the most uncomfortable stat in GTM right now: nearly nine in ten teams have genAI in their workflow, and roughly six percent qualify as actually extracting bottom-line value. that's not an adoption gap, adoption is DONE. that's a "we all bought gym memberships in january" gap. the tools are in the building. the results are not.

and here's the punchline of the whole era: while we've been busy pointing AI at our outbound, the buyers pointed AI at US first. like 94% of buyers now run their research through AI before any vendor knows they exist, and gartner's saying basically all seller research will start with AI within a year. so the current state of B2B is two robots reading about each other while the humans wait to be introduced. modern romance.

the actual insight hiding in the new data tho, and this one rewired me a bit: linkedin's research this week says the stuff that gets you recommended by AI, customer proof, peer endorsements, reputation, compounds BEFORE any visible engagement happens. before the click. before the form fill. before your attribution model even wakes up. which means the most important part of your funnel now happens in a phase you cannot see, cannot track, and definitely cannot A/B test. your dashboards start measuring at chapter 5 of a book the buyer already half-finished.

so the q3 move isn't another tool, we've established the tools aren't the bottleneck, six percent lol. it's the boring compounding stuff: real customer proof that machines can find and cite, a reputation that exists in places you don't own, and clean data underneath so the AI you DID buy isn't reasoning off a CRM full of ghosts. the 6% aren't running better software. they're feeding it better truth.

anyway. new quarter, same lesson, louder. is anyone here honestly in the 6% and what did it actually take? and be real, "we bought the enterprise tier" doesn't count as a strategy.
