what benefits does reddit have for you?

I am asking this question because a friend of mines is making money from reddit, idk how she's doing it but i dont understand how either.

Just what benefit does it have to anyone else? For me, Its an second google search bar, i get answers or have someone give me hella good life advice. And alot of times, i do meet alot of assholes but it doesnt bother me as much anymore. the world is full of assholes.

One more question, lol..is there an good subreddit to promo yourself on? She said she promoted herself alot before she even gotten money.
