Persistent Knee Pain
Age 31M, active
Height 182 cm
Weight 80kg
Race White
Duration of complaint since the beginning of May
Location left knee
I have some knee pain since May. This past year, when fulling squatting down for house chores, with a fully bent knee, my left knee started hurting when fully extended.
Now after May I cannot fully bend the left knee without stabbing, intense pain on the lateral side. It feels like i'm pinching something (not physically pinching, but the pain) I now automatically put my weight on my right knee when needing to crouch down to do something.
The knee feels unstable when walking, but i've always had knees that tend to lock out (overflex when walking, but only when stepping down)
What I've done before my 30s: I had multiple accidents, nothing major, had to get stitches on my right leg that forced me to walk with a limp for some months at 16. I've also done some basketball, but never had any major injuries to the knees that weren't cuts, contusions from falling off a bike.
What I was doing before the injury: I go to the gym regularly, squatted with no issue up to 100Kg, with low ankle mobility so i had to use the equivalent of heeled shoes for lifting. (had to squat with my heels up while working on mobility). I did feel "wobbly" on the weights but i thought it was because of the weight amount.
What happened: nothing specific, i suddenly felt that i couldn't crouch completely down. No bruising, no swelling, little to no warmth difference between the two legs. I don't know if it was a lack of warm up or anything, but i now have this lingering injury. I did, though, start Front Squats at the beginning of march, slowly going up in weight but never quite as high, which might put more pressure on the knee i guess.
What I had done medically speaking:
My GP visited me and felt the knee and we saw that my pain is on the bone (medial and lateral. Both the head of the Tibia and Fibula) and not on the cartilage, so she assumed it could be a tendonitis. I took 10 days of 400mg Ibuprofen, 3/day without any result. I felt little to no effect.
Last week i had an X-Ray that highlighted nothing particular. I still don't have the file but the report says no asymmetries, no bone issues, all limits normal.
I did the Thessaly test and sometimes i have pain sometimes not. I have some positive pain to the McMurray test.
If when sitting i pull with my hamstrings, like when sitting on a chair and trying to pull myself forward, i feel pain.
My GP and Personal Trainer both say i overloaded my joints. Could be, I just wanted a second opinion cause i started doing some knee strengthening exercises, with no weight, balancing, and it's not getting better. I wish it was something easy but i also am scared of not doing anything and ending up with a effed up knee later on.
