I got diagnosed with BPD by a psychiatric nurse I saw twice and I don't even match the symptoms
Intense fear of abandonment : I fear being engulfed, I am very avoidant because I don't want someone to disrupt my life habits. If my routine change, like it would with a partner sometimes, I'd be really uncomfortable
Unstable, intense relationships : I am dating, all is well, we get along great and it started slowly with no pressure. I keep childhood friends and we get along great, no one ever told me it felt intense with me or left me for it.
Identity disturbance (unstable self-image) : I do have identity disturbance but who wouldn't after years of childhood abuse? I am pretty stable on what my values and my hobbies.
Impulsive, self-damaging behaviors : I am the most scared person of Impulsive and self-damaging behavior. I hate doing something in an Impulsive way. I have to think a long time before acting. My nickname is even the name of a famous singer in my country who is known to take a lot of time to think things through.
Recurrent self-harm or suicidal behavior : I never attempted suicide. I did self-harm 14 years ago when I was under intense psychological and emotional abuse from my parents. Again, who wouldn't? I've been clean for 14 years, let it go.
Severe emotional instability (affective instability) : This one I match.
Chronic feelings of emptiness : I don't feel empty.
Inappropriate, intense anger : Again, I am really slow and I have a lot of patience. I don't get angry easily at all, my psychiatrist even suggested it would be healthy for me to feel anger, even rage, towards what I endured in my childhood. This is not me, I am never angry. And I am not a person using passive aggressive methods either.
Stress-related paranoia or dissociation : I do suffer from DPDR since I ate an edible. As for paranoia, I was diagnosed as schizophrenic by my new (really competent) psychiatrist.
I am sorry for the long post but this is something I can't stand. They saw a young woman come in, I deal with PTSD, sure my emotions are all over the place sometimes, and they diagnosed me with BPD only after two appointments. I never learned how to deal with them in a healthy way but I am just not BPD. When I called them out for their bullshit they told me I had "light" BPD. What is that even suppose to mean? And then I kept pushing and explaining how I don't match and they told me I just have "attachment issues". No shit Sherlock, I was abused my whole childhood by the people who are supposed to protect you, my parents.
I have stable friendships and relationships. I do not fear abandonment because, for example, my best friend takes 3 days to answer me, I do take some time myself to answer. Another example, I don't panic if my date expresses they don't want to date anymore. Sure I feel a little sad if I liked them but I don't go on a suicidal rant to make them stay with me.
I mean I don't know, sorry if those are clichés about BPD but it's just not me. I am tired of their bullshit diagnosis.
