Twitter DMs disappeared. Help.

I send DMs to myself to remember to check out some things. I went to go check some of what I sent myself and it said my chat needed to be updated. So I updated the app and I went back to check my dms and it said my last message I sent myself was 5 weeks ago which was untrue it was literally today. Does anyone know how I could get my messages back from the past 5 weeks. I can't believe for 5 weeks I wasn't aware I need to have a updated app to send messages to people thats crazy.
