Just finished watching Capture the Flag (Season 6) for the first time
Seems a lot of people don't like this season as much, and I do understand why.
The main flaw is one that I can see has already been said a lot--most of the season is spent in and around train stations, staring at the map. Not all that exciting to watch. I think they learned from this with Rail Rush, with the challenges forcing them to get off and actually show off the area. In CtF, even when they do go somewhere interesting, the format usually means they just immediately run off again.
The best part of the season is round 3, when they do get away from the train stations more--e.g. Adam chasing Sam around that cute little town, and Ben and Adam hiding in the castle.
The other thing I didn't like, which I haven't seen mentioned so much, is that so much of the season had the players off on their own. The majority of the time they're all isolated and just talking into the camera. I prefer when they're in pairs, doing things together. Though this season did have a few fun moments where someone is hanging out with a player from the opposite team, and that's really fun and it's something you don't always get. In a lot of the seasons, the opposing teams only meet at the very beginning and end. It's neat when they get to be face to face. Sam trolling Ben and Adam and just hovering around them was great.
I think the third round was a lot better than the first two. I was honestly kind of bored for the first few episodes and only started to warm to it once they got into round 3.
I've seen some comments about the game being too complicated, which I don't really agree with--maybe a little bit when they're stacking loads of towers, but most of them didn't end up mattering anyway.
I think the people who like this season are the people who mostly watch for strategy and gameplay, because for that it's pretty good. There's plenty of neat strategies and clever tricks going on.
I personally would say I watch primarily for the team interactions, the challenges, and the cool locations, and this season falls a little short on all three of those. It's still not bad.
So far I've watched the most recent 3 seasons, plus Schengen Showdown, and now the first 6 seasons. Of those I'd probably rank CtF third from the bottom, above Seasons 1 + 2. But even the worst season is still good content
