Something I've been thinking about after being left wanting more while playing this game.
This game has been such a great experience for me. Most FMV games tend to be dating sims where you play as a male protagonist, so it was really refreshing to get something different for once. I loved The Road to Empress and its story, although I can’t say I felt the same about Li Tai’s route… for obvious reasons.
What I enjoy most are stories about powerful women carving out their own path, especially in historical settings where women had so little freedom to shape their own lives. I also love palace intrigue, court politics, and all the detail that comes with that world — the costumes, jewelry, interiors, etiquette, and all the small decorative details. The Road to Empress honestly left me wanting more, and ever since I finished it I’ve been hoping for more games in a similar style.
I know this is a Chinese company and that a project like this is probably unlikely, but I keep thinking how incredible it would be to have a game inspired by the life of Hürrem Sultan. Magnificent Century was already such an iconic series, and I can only imagine how amazing it would be to experience a story like that in game form, especially if you could actively shape the story yourself.
And I don’t even think it would need multiple love interests to work. In Hürrem’s case, the obvious central LI would be Suleiman, but the game could make up for that by leaning much more heavily into branching relationship systems, politics, and court survival. For example, there could be a love / loyalty / trust system with Suleiman that actually changes major parts of the story: how devoted he is to you, how much influence you have over him, whether he emotionally distances himself, whether he turns to other women, or even whether he remains faithful depending on your choices and the state of the relationship.
On top of that, the game could have systems for prestige, reputation, and political alliances at court. Your decisions could affect your standing in the harem, your public image, your influence over palace figures, the loyalty of servants and allies, and even your children’s future prospects. You could have to balance romance, survival, ambition, motherhood, diplomacy, and factional politics all at once, which honestly feels perfect for a story like Hürrem’s. Instead of multiple romance routes, the replay value could come from different versions of Hürrem herself: a softer, more devoted Hürrem, a politically ruthless Hürrem, a Hürrem focused on survival, a Hürrem obsessed with securing the throne for her children, etc.
I think that’s what makes her story so ideal for a game like this. It wouldn’t just be about romance — it could be about power, strategy, emotional manipulation, court dynamics, and how much of yourself you’re willing to sacrifice to survive and win.
Am I the only one who’s thought about this, or would anyone else love a game like that too?
For anyone who doesn’t know her: Hürrem Sultan (also known in Europe as Roxelana) was one of the most famous women of the Ottoman Empire. She was originally a slave or captive of probable Ruthenian/Ukrainian origin who rose through the imperial harem to become the favorite — and eventually the legal wife — of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. She became one of the most powerful women in the empire, and her life was full of palace intrigue, political influence, rivalries, and succession drama, which is exactly why I think she would make such an amazing protagonist for a game like this.
