Pre-requisites question

💡 Advice

Hi all,
I’m a non-traditional applicant in Washington working on my dental school prerequisites, and I’m hoping to get some advice.

I was accepted to UW, but they told me they don’t have room in the general science prerequisite classes for non-traditional students. They advised me to complete all of those at a community college instead. Because of that, I’m currently taking my science prerequisites at Shoreline Community College. The only exceptions are biochemistry and microbiology, which UW allows non-traditional students to take there as upper-division courses.

I’m considering moving to Colorado at some point, so I started looking at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine’s prerequisite recommendations. It sounds like they prefer (or at least strongly encourage) applicants to take their general science courses at a four-year university, which made me worry that my community college coursework won’t be viewed as competitive.
I’m confused because, in Washington, it seems like community college is essentially the only option for someone in my situation. I didn’t choose CC because it was easier—it was literally the path UW told me to take.
My plan is to apply broadly (probably 15–20 schools). Should I just finish my prerequisites here in Washington and not worry about it? Or would it be smarter to move to Colorado sooner and start taking my science classes at a university there?

I’d especially love to hear from anyone who was a non-traditional applicant, took prerequisites at a community college, or applied to Colorado. Thanks!
