Need relationship advice (me M28 gf F23)
!!<Hey, I would have never thought I would be asking this on Reddit, but independent opinions never hurt.
Me (28M) and my girlfriend (23 F) have been dating for a little over a year. Recently, we moved in together, and the way she functions drives me up the wall.
First of all, we both work, and she sometimes takes on extra second-job shifts for extra money. However, most of the expenses (groceries, going out, small things for the apartment) are covered by me. The bigger purchases are mostly 50/50, but even then, I usually pay and get her half weeks later. I make more money than she, but not by much, so I am stressing the fuck out and looking for a new job that pays more so I can cover more and we can relax a bit (even though my current job is kind of chill and I enjoy it).
Second, I do most of the work around the house. Not all the time, but any attempt at splitting chores/cooking roughly 50/50 always ended up not working.
More on that - I am the type of person who, when I say I will do something, gets up and gets it done. Whether it's my responsibility or not. When she says she will do something around the house, or cook, or take care of the cats - she does it after 2 days, or I end up doing it. I feel like she doesn't know how to do shit when it isn't comfortable, and it drives me up the wall. Because I feel like I sacrifice my temporary comfort for us, and she doesn't.
Overall, I feel like she isn't reliable and isn't giving even remotely as much to the relationship and our shared living as I am. When I call her out on that, she always has an excuse as to why she did not do it. Sometimes valid, mostly not. And on top of that, she spends most of her free time scrolling reels, bedrotting, or going out with friends. We do have some shared hobbies and spend time together on dates, but outside of that, I feel like I am holding this relationship down with everything I am doing. Meanwhile, I work more, earn more, take care of the apartment more, and have more things I am building on the side that I want to spend time on - music, business, working out.
My main question is: how the fuck do I get to a point when this gets better? All conversations about these things end up nowhere or at a point where she gets her way or has an excuse. I love her; we get along great on so many things, but given the way things have been the last few months, I want to break up or at least significantly shake things up. Your thoughts?
