Aripiprazol for 13 year old with autism, up the dosage or try something else?

Hi everyone. My daughter is 13 years old, caucasian, 154cm, 42kg. She was diagnosed with autism level 1 and persistent depressive disorder at age eleven. They also tested her for other things and they found out she has a high IQ, especially the verbal part of it. Het autism shows in a lot of ways, when she was young it seemed like she was controlling and had anger issues. After a busy schoolday she would scream her head off. She also didn't like certain socks for example and needed to feel in control of everything. This hasn't changed.

When she started at secondary school things went downhill fast. It was a very big school and the changes in classrooms, teachers and schedule were hard for her. Combined with a lot of kids moving through the hallways, unpredictable lessons, sights, sounds... she wasn't able to go to school full days and eventually she couldn't go at all anymore. The had shutdowns in front of the school and meltdowns at home.

Because of this het therapist recommended we talk to a psychiatrist to see if he could help her with the sensory issues. He recommended she try Aripiprazol which is prescribed for autism off-label where I live (The Netherlands). We started at 1 mg, then went to 2,5, to 3,5 and to 5mg. At the start she had some headaches but that was it, no side effects at all. She started noticing some effect at 2,5 mg and some more at 3,5. She is a little less bothered by sounds of people eating or breathing for example, but not enough to tolerate it everyday. I think her mood improved also but I'm not sure if this is because of the medication or because of other factors. She is in therapy also. We upped to 5mg two weeks ago but she says it doesn't feel different from the 3,5 mg. I talked to the psychiatrist on the phone today and he recommended that she goes back to 3,5 mg since upping the dose didn't work. He wants to talk about other options at our next in office appointment.

Now for my questions;

I read that for a 13 year old with autism the dosage of 10 mg is "normal". Is there any point in building up to that when 3,5 to 5 mg didn't do anything?

The psychiatrist wants to talk about other options, what would be good alternatives for a girl this young?

Thanks for reading and please let me know if any information is missing.
