SOS Circle of Nepal Dalit Info Network
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations proclaims that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Accordingly, every person is entitled to equal respect and human dignity.
The Constitution of Nepal commits itself to ending all forms of discrimination and oppression created by the feudal, autocratic, centralized, and unitary state system. It envisions the creation of an equitable society by eliminating class-, caste-, and other forms of discrimination, as well as all forms of caste-based untouchability.
The tragic reality, however, is that even after one-quarter of the twenty-first century has passed, Nepalese society continues to suffer from socially constructed caste discrimination based solely on birth. As a result, members of the Dalit community continue to face psychological trauma, physical violence, rape, and even murder. Such atrocities place the dignity, safety, and lives of innocent Dalit people—particularly young women and men—at constant risk. In many cases, Dalit youth find themselves isolated, with no one to turn to for immediate assistance, resulting in the loss of precious lives. According to Nepal's National Dalit Commission, during the current fiscal year (2082–2083 B.S.) alone, 11 members of the Dalit community have lost their lives in various incidents.
If you find yourself in such a life-threatening situation and are able to access a mobile phone, please use this Reddit message to send an emergency alert to the SOS Circle of the Nepaldalitinfo Network and seek immediate assistance for your safety.
Likewise, if any member of this network is in a position to reach the incident location within a reasonable time, please provide emergency support by sharing the information with appropriate authorities, mobilizing others, or, where it is safe and feasible, offering direct assistance yourself.
Please remember that in an SOS situation, the Three Ss (3S) are critically important:
- Seconds – Pass on Information immediately, say in seconds, when the incident occurs.
- Specific Place – Clearly communicate the specific location of the incident.
- Swiftness of Action – Respond as swiftly for action as possible.
This SOS network circle is being launched based on the concept I presented a few months ago through Gorkhali TV (Facebook video: https://www.facebook.com/reel/925182660438325). The vision is that, as more volunteers join the network, the collective pool of resources, skills, time, and effort will continue to grow, thereby progressively strengthening our capacity to provide timely assistance to individuals facing emergency situations.
