Root/Jailbreak Nook GlowLight 4 Plus in 2026 for first e-reader?

Buying Advice

Hello there, I want to get my first e-reader, and am narrowing down what to get. I just got back into reading at night and it helps with my anxiety, I have so many sci-fi novels I want to read.

Use case: Side-loaded books and BW manga, reading at home in bed.

Desired screen: BW, 8 inches

Price: Preferably under $200, used is fine. I have the money but don't think paying over $200 makes an e-reader worth it over buying physical copies (atleast until I have more experience using one and know what I want).

Reader design / color: No preferences

With the Kobo Forma and Sage being discontinued (why?) and hard to find, and the next best thing being Meebook off Aliexpress, I stumbled upon the B&N Nook GlowLight 4 Plus which has a great used price on e-bay of around $100. I don't really care about the insane battery life from a custom OS, waterproofing, or portability. I intend on rooting the android software and installing KOReader, and have already found two posts on how to do it. I will not be buying any books directly from Barnes & Noble.

Does this sound like a good use case? Anyone else go this route? It sounds like an economical way for a slightly above average e-reader.
