Flight delay from 5+ hours and looking for compensation

Flight got delayed 2-3 weeks ago: Flight was late to arrive so we had to board late, then problem with part on plane so engineers couldn’t find piece. Had to deboard and wait for another plane to arrive and then fly on that plane.

How does compensation work for this delay?
