Paroxysmal afib and wondering about ablation

47m here diagnosed with paroxysmal afib about 2.5-3 yrs ago with flutter. It's been more off than on over the last 2 years and the most my Apple Watch says I was in afib over that time was 16% (one time). Others it's 5-8% and all lasted from 30 mins shortest to a a little over a full day at longest. From Oct 2024 through Oct/Nov 2025 I had zero episodes. Then had a handful here and there over the winter (6-10% burden a few times) up until February/March 2026. Now it's back to none, or very low (2% or less on watch) since. I've been keeping track of any triggers, but honestly there are none specifically. One time it was me sitting on a chair to bend over to pick something up. Another time it was sitting and watching tv in an odd position. other times its after mowing the lawn. Early on it was while warming up for a run/workout.

I'm on low dose of diltiazem and have an ablation scheduled for late August. With how little burden of afib I have now and reading others experiences after ablation of higher RHR and lower max HR has me somewhat concerned about the ablation. But knowing afib doesn't just go away and potentially could get worse over time, I'm still on.

Prior to afib, I was a health nut. HIIT workouts, multiple 3-5 mile runs a week with a few 10 milers thrown in here and there. Since afib, my workouts have drastically slowed to 1-2 mile walks about 3-4x/week. RHR averages about 51 bpm over a week's time. I'm always aware of my heart, if that makes sense, even when in NSR. Reading the successes with ablation has me wanting to do it and my EP says at my age and condition, it's a smart option. My cardiologist leaves the final decision to me, but isn't against it either. I don't want to rely on medication. All scans, tests, measurements, etc are normal.

Just want to read what the Redditors have experienced that I'm sill on the ablation track.
