beware of Lo Loestrin Fe!!
if you have migraines with any type of aura, don’t listen to your doctor that the amount of estrogen in this pill is negligible or won’t affect your migraines!
i have migraines with aura. when my gyno recommended this pill to me and said it had estrogen, i explained my migraines and that i’d been told years ago that i shouldn’t take estrogen due to the increased stroke risk. my gyno assured me that the amount of estrogen was so small that it wouldn’t affect my migraines. BULLSHIT!!
i started the pills in january, by the middle of february i was having migraines every week or two, sometimes twice a week. i’ve had 13 migraines since, even tho i stopped the pills 6 weeks ago. for reference, my migraine frequency for years was 2-3 a year. a huge increase!! (i had a migraine on thursday last week and one today)
also, a side effect of those pills is increased blood sugar, which i didn’t know. i got my blood sugar tested in April and it showed i was pre-diabetic. my PCP thought that was weird since my blood sugar the year before was normal and it doesn’t usually raise so significantly so quickly. and it doesn’t UNLESS you’re taking a janky birth control pill that raises it to insane levels in just 3 months!
once i stopped the pills, the pre-diabetic symptoms went away. no more nerve pain or tingling or numbness. i didn’t even know that was possible with birth control
i want to warn others cause i know a lot of people like to do research from real people before starting these types of medications. i know these side effects don’t happen for everyone, but keep them in mind! i had to dig to find the migraine and blood sugar ones
