Am I actually a trans man?
Hey anyone reading this! I’m a 26 year old afab person. For the past three years I’ve identified as nonbinary/genderfluid.
I’ve known for a long time, since I was a child, that I didn’t quite feel comfortable being seen as a girl. But along with that, I did have many “feminine” interests, and was friends with mostly girls growing up.
I’ve basically thought I was genderfluid for a while now because my dysphoria kind of fluctuates and sometimes it doesn’t bother me as much. But when it does feel strong, I feel a strong pull to be and look more masculine.
But lately I’ve been really putting the pieces together and thinking I might actually really be a man. This past year especially I’ve felt less and less connected to my womanhood and more uncomfortable with she/her pronouns.
Even though I get along better with women usually, and I like makeup and fashion, and I’m a pretty emotional person (all stereotypical feminine traits) I also have a lot of things that point to not being a woman.
I really don’t like how feminine my body is and how big my chest is. I bind frequently now and am much more comfortable that way.
I look at so many other men quite often and think “I wish I looked like him” or “I wish I could be like him”.
I hate the sound of my voice and how high pitched it is
I cut my hair a lot now to keep it short because it feels more comfortable for me.
I also find myself loving the use of “he/him” pronouns for me and also when people use masculine terms for me.
From middle school all the way to now I’ve watched so much content from specifically trans guys and either relate a lot or wish I could be like them.
I think I’m stuck for two reasons. One, the femininity thing makes me worry I’m not valid in how I feel. Which is silly I know especially because I don’t judge other men or trans guys for embracing femininity or not being stereotypical. I’m also bisexual and autistic so I don’t know why I feel like I would have to fit in to that kind of box but it keeps me up at night doubting myself from it somehow.
The other reason is simply fear. I worry that people will think I’m lying or that they’ll be extra transphobic because I’m short and have that feminine side. I feel like I’m stuck in everyone’s eyes as a woman.
Are these feelings pretty normal? Could I actually be a trans man instead of nonbinary?
