Asking sellers about property history for peace of mind – is this standard?
I am currently in the process of purchasing a home in the UK. Due to my Hindu faith, I have concerns regarding the history of the property (specifically regarding any reports of suicide, violent death, or major trauma) to ensure it is suitable for our religious practices and peace of mind.
I want to ask my solicitor to make this formal enquiry, but I’m curious:
- Is it common for sellers to actually disclose this information?
- Are there any other ways to verify this information without relying solely on the seller's disclosure?
Any advice on navigating this during the conveyancing process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
