Built a Chrome extension because I got tired of losing context every time I hit a usage limit and had to switch AI models
so this has been annoying me for months — I'd be deep into a conversation with Claude, actually getting somewhere on something, and then boom, hit the limit. Only option was to open ChatGPT, manually copy-paste 20 messages worth of context, reformat half of it because the markdown breaks, and basically restart my train of thought.
Same thing happens the other way too. Gemini has a free tier I like using for quick stuff but then I want to move the convo into Claude for actual writing. Every time it's the same copy-paste dance and something always gets lost — code blocks get mangled, long threads get truncated when I paste them.
Ended up just building something for myself first. It's called ChainChat — one click and it grabs your current conversation and drops it straight into whichever AI you're switching to (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok), formatting intact. Also has an AI summarizer built in for when a chat gets really long and you just want the gist instead of scrolling forever, and you can export any conversation to markdown if you want to save it somewhere.
Free version gives you 20 transfers/exports to try it out, no signup needed. If it's actually useful to you there's a one-time $29 unlock for unlimited — I didn't want to do the subscription thing, felt wrong for something this small.
Been using it daily myself for like a month now and it's saved me an embarrassing amount of copy-paste fatigue. Curious if this is a problem other people actually deal with too or if I just have a weird workflow. Happy to answer anything about how it works.
