Anyone else? Lenovo LOQ F1, Caps Lock & 2 keys only work after repeated presses (Also happens in BIOS & Ubuntu)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for help diagnosing a very unusual keyboard issue on my Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9 (Type 83DV).

Laptop Specifications

• Model: Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9 (Type 83DV)

• CPU: Intel Core i5-13450HX

• GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4050 Laptop

• BIOS Tested: NECN50WW and NECN47WW (rolled back)

• OS: Windows 11 25H2

Problem Description

Initially, only the following keys started behaving abnormally:

• F1

• Caps Lock

• 2 (@)

Current behavior:

• Pressing the affected key once usually does nothing.

• Repeatedly pressing the key (around 5–20 times) eventually makes it register.

• Once it starts working, the key works normally for some time.

• After heavy keyboard usage (especially gaming using WASD), the issue returns and the keys again require repeated presses.

Additional observations:

• Holding Shift, Ctrl or Alt while pressing an affected key sometimes makes that key register once, but it does not permanently fix the issue.

• After releasing the modifier, the key usually becomes intermittent again until repeatedly pressed several times.

• Pressing the key harder makes no difference.

• The physical Caps Lock LED only toggles when the key actually registers.

Troubleshooting Already Performed

Operating Systems Tested

• Windows 11

• Windows Safe Mode

• Ubuntu Live USB

• BIOS

The issue is reproducible in all four environments.

Software Troubleshooting

• Reset Windows

• Reinstalled keyboard drivers

• Reinstalled Intel drivers

• Reinstalled NVIDIA drivers

• Removed Lenovo Vantage

• Uninstalled recent Windows Updates

• Rolled BIOS back from NECN50WW to NECN47WW

• Disabled Fast Startup

• Checked Sticky Keys and Filter Keys

• Tested with the On-Screen Keyboard

None of the above permanently changed the behavior.

Additional Findings

• The On-Screen Keyboard always works normally.

• Using the On-Screen Keyboard correctly toggles the physical Caps Lock LED.

• I initially thought BIOS was unaffected, but after repeatedly pressing WASD inside BIOS (similar to gaming), the exact same issue appeared there as well.

• Rapid WASD usage consistently makes the problem easier to reproduce.

Similar Reports

While searching online, I found multiple Lenovo LOQ users reporting the exact same affected keys (F1, Caps Lock and 2) or very similar intermittent keyboard behavior.
