Getting back into TCG after years away

Haven't bought any cards since maybe 2015 or so and I'm thinking about jumping back in. The sets look mad compared to what I remember and there's so much more product now. Is the community still welcoming to people coming back in, or has it gotten quite gatekeep-y? Also what's a decent starter set to grab for someone returning?
