Bike hire debate

My brother is doing an iron man this year and money wise he’s worried (he has the bike and has trained on it but it needs a full service, reassembly out there, luggage etc). He’s thinking about hiring one out there but goes against rule 1 “don’t change anything on race day”. However his is now 10 years old. Do you think hiring would be alright, or should he stick to his?
