Is it possible to break hot staples?

I bought a bike with a damaged fairing and it has been poorly hot stapled together. One side of the crack is higher than the other so it makes it stick out even more. I know it isn't going to make the crack disappear. However I'd like to make it look nicer. I've hot stapled a fairing together before and the hairline crack was visible but was decently hidden from further away. I definitely think I could make it look a lot better but fixing it myself. The staples that look like they've used are just straight lined rather than squiggly. Thing is I'd rather not make it worse at the same time. Hence my question. Is it possible to break the staples and not cause more damage?
