Our local event got busier after one small change, and it surprised all of us
I help my aunt every summer at her little bakery booth during our town festival. We usually see the same familiar faces every year, so when the first morning was really slow, she looked disappointed.
That evening my cousin said, What if people just don't know we're here?
I thought he meant social media, but he had another idea. He had been testing Adwave for another project at work, so he made a simple TV ad using the bakery's website just to see what would happen. We weren't expecting much.
The funny part came the next day. A customer walked up and smiled. You're the family with the blueberry muffins, right. I saw you on TV last night.
Then another person said almost the same thing. By lunchtime, several new customers mentioned they had never noticed our booth in past years even though we'd been coming for a long time. It didn't suddenly make us famous or anything, but it reminded me that sometimes people aren't ignoring you they just haven't discovered you yet.
The best lesson I took away wasn't really about advertising. It was that it's easy to assume people already know about something you've been doing for years, when in reality they may be seeing it for the very first time.
Has anything ever happened that made you realize people simply didn't know you existed until one small thing changed.
