HENRYs 40+: what would you do differently?
Hi all,
A few of the recent posts have scared me and made me rethink my financial position. And what could be more helpful than asking you, with more experience and broader worldview, what could be done to avoid common mistakes / financial insecurity. In relation to the below context and your specific experience, what would you do / avoid at all costs to reach my goals?
Context
31M, asset management (front office; 50ish hours per week), £165k base + 40-60% discretionary bonus + 10% private pension contribution. Trajectory is c 5-10% base growth pa. Promotion won’t happen in next 2 years. £1.3k housing costs per month (partner owns, I don’t), savings of £4-4.5k. Assets include rainy day (£15k), ISA (£50k), properties abroad (£1.2m, for retirement, currently low equity; mortgaged, tenanted, break-even), SIPP etc (£175k).
Goals
Early retirement / free choice when it comes to jobs. First kid in next 3 years. House in £1.2-1.4m bracket.
