NHS wait times/ anything I can do

F/ 25 / UK

Hi there, I’m mainly posting this for support/advice and to see if there’s anyone who is in a similar stage of their journey to me/ gone through similar.

To start, I had been on birth control (combined pill, mini pill and then the evra patch) for around 7/8 years. I started when I was about 17 and prior to that had irregular periods, I always put this down to stress at school. None of the sexual health clinics batted an eyelid when I said I had irregular periods.

Going forward to March 2025, I stopped using the patch as I wanted to get off BC to have a break from it. Going forward to September 2025 I still had no period and got a GP appointment where we discussed PCOS. I had bloods taken which showed possible sub clinical hypothyroidism and higher testosterone. Had an ultrasound that showed confirmation of PCOS too. Ultrasound also showed some fluid in my abdomen which I then had to do a swab for for pelvic inflammatory disease and was given 2 weeks of antibiotics (sample came back negative)

It wasn’t until I did a breast check that I noticed milk coming from both my nipples. In January GP got me another blood test and prolactin came back as 1319 mu/L. Got** **an urgent referral sent off to Endocrinology on the 27 February, which is where I’m still waiting. The waitlist is still going up and despite having an urgent referral I’m now likely to hear back about an appointment around mid August.

What I’m wondering is if anyone is in the same situation? I haven’t had a period in a year and a half and am worried about this. I’m also dreading the fact that I may have to join a waitlist for a scan (does anyone have experience with how long I may need to wait). I’m tempted to go private but not sure how that process all works out and after working out that a consultation is £200 and mri £800, I’d be spending minimum £1k just for those 2 bits alone.

Thanks for reading, any help/advice/thoughts welcome! Just getting tired of it all
