Male, 45, 220lbs goes through odd episodes of acting drunk without drinking. Please read.
My husband is 45, and we’ve been together for 18 years. Mentioning this because I know him well.
He is on Wellbutrin and Lexapro for severe anxiety, and has been on Wellbutrin for years, and on lexapro for about a year. He had a ruptured spine disk surgery about 4 months ago.
When he got on Wellbutrin (after years of treating his anxiety with bourbon), he completely stopped drinking, and did not drink for 6 years. He started having a beer or two about a year ago, usually once a week, only in the evening (he takes his meds in the morning). It seemed like the meds made him much drunker, so he cut back. But here is what’s happening now, and has been happening for months now - even when he doesn’t drink at all, every other evening he would look like he was drunk, out of it - glassy eyes, slowed down and sometimes slurred speech. He’s not hiding alcohol or weed, we’ve always been open about it. We used to live where weed was legal and he had a license and bought gummies so he could sleep. And he doesn’t smell like alcohol. He does smoke cigars, I don’t know if it’s relevant.
I dont know what to do, who should he see? He saw his primary doctor, and because the apt was in the morning - he was normal. He mentioned those episodes but the doc brushed them off. These episodes really scare me because he does not act like himself. What can it be? Thank you
