Just finished Season 4
I have mixed feelings about this season because for the most part I had a really really good time. I live for Lois Lane finally being part of Smallville. I love the new chlark dynamic. The high school episodes were so much fun.
But I have to admit there’s less of that Smallville-ness, that charm from the early seasons that makes you feel 1001 emotions all at once. I noticed the scenes between the Kents were shorter & less impactful than the ones from Seasons 1 & 2, which usually made a large part of why the show feels like a warm hug, a home for many of us. I didnt feel any kind of strong emotion towards the Teagues like I did for Lionel in s3. And besides his exceptionally phenomenal performance in Onyx, I wasnt really moved by Lex this season. The show feels like it’s entering CW territory with all these action but less of the emotional punches that we get from Memoria, Ryan, Rosetta. Pariah was DEVASTATING don’t get me wrong, but it felt like the writers wanted to make it depressing just for the sake of making it depressing.
As a whole it was still an enjoyable ride. A perfect summer season.
If I had to rank the seasons so far it would be:
- Season 2
- Season 3
- Season 4 (reaaaally strong contender for second place. i might rank it higher upon rewatching, we’ll see)
- Season 1
