Golden handcuffs with a brutal commute vs a fully remote role
Right now I make 285k a year. The job is located in a high cost of living city but my current housing setup is completely covered so my expenses here are minimal. The major downside is that my partner lives in a low cost of living city for school, in which I cover rent and utilities. To make the relationship work I have to travel back and forth every two weeks and do a week of remote work there. The constant commuting is exhausting.
I have an opportunity to take a fully remote role that pays 165k a year. Accepting this offer means I can move back to the low cost of living area permanently and live with my partner full time again.
Has anyone walked away from a salary gap this large for the sake of quality of life?
