Bought a second hand X1C Gen9

I bought a second hand Carbon X1 Gen 9 laptop and have noticed a plastic-y smell emitting from it. I opened it up and didn't notice any problems with the internals. I notice the foul odour even when the computer is at 50 degrees Celsius. The smell is kind of sweet and plastic, yet the computer isn't overheating. There isn't any smoke and it doesn't look all that dusty. Thoughts? Are the fumes toxic?
