Looking to expand my readings!
I stopped reading for a decade, and feel very behind and unable to properly articulate what I like in a novel. My favorite books are
-
Crime & Punishment, I really love the characters, the philosophical arguments, and how he portrayed nihilists fairly, despite criticizing them.
-
Stoner! I couldn't stop thinking about this book for a week after reading it. Focusing so solely on a single mans life, his mistakes and his passion was wonderful. After finishing it, I was happy to have had my life so far, and to have avoided such pitfalls of misery.
-
The Name of the Rose. Similar to C&P, the philosophical and theological debates that take place in this book are just wonderful to read, and I love the setting as well. The attention to detail to reproduce mannerisms, daily life, and speech for these characters showed a lot of care of the craft from Eco (which I am not surprised by.)
-
The Fisherman portrayed grief beautifully. I can't really say more without spoiling it, but I think that is the strong point and it had me gripped.
-
Wuthering Heights is my #1 all time book. The misery, the drama, the romance. I truly believe this is a masterpiece.
If you could craft some recommendation from these I would be happy to add it to my reading list. Thank you!
