**CONTEXT**

* Xothgail is one of the gods (*called Celestial Bodies*) in my fantasy world, Laws of Nature. It is an alternate reality version of Earth, featuring completely different countries, histories, religions, and several sapient humanoid species that coexist alongside humanity. The introduction of Urge as the 5th fundamental force by the creator god Apotheosis's sacrifice has mutated plants, animals, and even the world itself over time, and each humanoid has a soul that allows them to channel Urge into spells both big and small. There is a pantheon of 12 main gods/goddesses that rule over certain concepts, with Xothgail being one of them. Most have their own month, relic, and realm in the Astral Plane that their followers go to after death.

**DOMAIN** \- Chaos, change, expression, creativity, art, beauty, rebellion, and color.

**MONTH** \- Xothus, the 2nd month, the Month of Revolution.

**MANTRA** \- “*Life is a canvas. You are the paint. I am the brush.*”

**REALM**

* Xothgail's realm is Venustrav, a bizarre land where reality is in a constant state of flux and every day is radically different from the last. The only thing that stays consistent is any form of artistic expression, as Xothgail appreciates creativity and doesn't want to see it destroyed. Therefore, residents make sure to turn anything they want to keep in the same state into works of art. Statues, paintings, and other creative works are displayed like an art gallery. The sky is a haze of all sorts of colors, with swirling and twisting black clouds zooming about in a perpetual breeze. The rules of physics and logic don’t apply: one day, gravity might be sideways, another day, shadows don’t exist.

**RELIC**

* Xothgail's relics are Mallus and Caelum. They are an enchanted hammer and chisel made of bright white marble with rainbowy, shifting veins running through them. Mallus, the hammer, represents the raw force required for change to occur, while Caelum, the chisel, represents the precision and tact needed to make that change stick. When used in tandem, they can transmute any kind of matter in the same way you'd work marble into a statue, using polymorphic magic. The result is based on your creative vision: what you think of is what is made. Xothgail uses them to create or repair the many works of art displayed in Venstrav, and they can even be used to remodel Xothgail's own avatar.

**AVATAR**

* Xothgail has no consistent avatar, changing between anything from a wild creature to a humanoid being to an inanimate object every time the god is observed. One of the only things that stays consistent is Xothgail's voice, which is a playful, androgynous Russian accent. Notably, most of Xoth's avatars have a sense of fluidity to them, with many looking like melting, living artwork.

**WORSHIP**

* Xothgail is mainly worshipped in the loose, overarching ontological belief shared by many Flowfolk: Immaterialism. It believes that the Mortal Plane is merely an imperfect facsimile of true reality, AKA Venustrav, which is known by them as the “*World of Forms*”. The World of Forms, to them, is a place of pure, perfect concepts that are merely projected onto the Mortal Plane, like art upon a canvas. Gods are said to gain their power by virtue of coming from this world, which would explain how they have dominion over concepts. The main goal of The Immaterials is to shed their mortal forms and become undying concepts with no physical limitations. They also believe that art and literature, in and of themselves, are simpler, more base worlds of their own that draw from the Mortal Plane. Thus, they create and protect artwork and works of fiction, as they believe the creators and artists are “*gods*” over them, being able to shape and alter them to their liking.

**PERSONALITY**

* Xothgail, true to their domain, is the least predictable of the Celestial Bodies. They act seemingly insane and without reason, never sticking to a coherent form, always changing things around on a whim, and growing bored or obsessed with things at random, switching from one topic to the next. Xothgail is quite fond of the idea of expressing oneself without limits and rebelling against unjust order. Thus, they are seen as a figurehead for many revolutions throughout history. It also makes them and their followers the sworn enemy of Operandi, the god of control and absolute order. Xothgail believes that all art is valuable, regardless of its contents.

**HISTORY**

* Xothgail was made by the creator god Apotheosis during The Great Diffusion alongside Operandi, the god of order. Xothgail and Operandi were made to contrast each other and keep the world in balance. However, ever since Operandi snapped and began his tyrannical reign, Xothgail has become similarly unhinged, in an attempt to match his extremism. It has gotten to the point that, during Xothus, Fluxstorms of rainbowy fog and sparkly lightning can occur, which transmute anything they touch. Cows may begin to lactate beer, grass can turn bright blue and brittle, stone turns to marshmallow, the air perfume, and fearsome monsters may turn into harmless critters or vice versa. It is theorized that Fluxstorms are meant as a meteorological weapon to counter Operandi's enclaves of Ordivinials, but sometimes get set off-current and affect others. Xothgail does not operate like most gods, who stay out of the Mortal Plane unless explicitly prayed to or summoned. It is said that any inanimate object, creature, or even person may actually be Xothgail transmuted into that form to spy on or take part in the Mortal Plane's affairs. The only way to tell is if it warps or melts unnaturally on close observation, unless Xothgail makes it known on purpose, of course. Xothgail's most well-known feat is creating the Flowfolk race, which they describe as "*living paint to coat the world in*". Xothgail wanted to make a race with no limits on how they could express themselves. Thus, Flowfolk, being made of liquid, can change their shape at will.
