#BACKGROUND

NOTE: Information may have been rearranged for reading clarity. Please refer to the links above to view the post as it was originally arranged.

I went through a break up in January. It only lasted 2 weeks, but it lasted long enough for me to get crazy introspective and to really question my life about whether or not it was going in the direction I wanted. In all areas of my life at the time, I felt like I wasn't living the life I wanted and the break up was meant to be some kind of wake up call.

I learned a lot about myself in that short time and from that point on I concluded that if a break up was necessary to get me to the better mindset and more understanding pov that I currently was at, then all things are ultimately good and leading to something beneficial.

I basically saw the breakup as a part of the bridge of incidents to bettering myself.

So once I came to the conclusion that even when less desirable things occur in my life, those things are necessary for the bridge of incidents and I decided I'm just gonna start doing what Neville says and just act as if.

#METHOD One thing that I really, really wanted to change about my life was my job.

So everyday, instead of complaining about the job that I had, I tried to act as if I loved my job.

I'd go to bed thinking, "I love my job so much and i'm so excited to go back tomorrow!"

I did something similar in the morning by forcing myself not to keep hitting snooze and to get out of bed excited to go to work.

##OOP ON WHAT FOLLOWED At the very least, I was hoping I would just stop being so depressed everyday about going to work. After a while, I did stop being depressed about going to work and I was legitimately happy about being there and socializing with the guests and my coworkers. I actually was genuinely looking forward to going to work. It was bizarre.

The right people started to notice this because out of nowhere (to me, anyways) I was offered a promotion in a completely different department at my job.

This may not be entirely the Neville way, but I feel like on the most broadest of senses I used Neville's belief of acting as if and having faith.

I was acting as if my job was perfect for me and I had faith that whatever I was doing right now was necessary to get me to the next, better job.

I know people say that being positive and happy all the time isn't necessary to get what you want, but I know for damn sure it makes it easier and feels a lot better. If you think about it anyways...if you're God why would there ever be a reason to not be happy? Why would there ever be a reason to be regularly upset or depressed? If you really believe you're God, you would know that the bad is only temporary because you have the power to change anything you created.

#FULFILMENT Anywhooo, so on the Friday I was offered the job, the general manager of the hotel called me to his office and straight up told me that there was a big opportunity for me if I wanted it. He explained the job to me and I said I'd give it a shot and I was told I would start on Monday. Just for some background information, I'm not on a "friends" level with the GM. We were always friendly in passing but the only time I had a conversation with him was maybe 2 weeks prior because I had my first little meeting with him that was unrelated to this job.

#OOP'S EXPLANATION OF THE BRIDGE OF INCIDENTS I'm gonna try to explain the bridge of incidents that was necessary for me to get this job.

The old department I worked for was understaffed so the GM started looking through all the resumes to see if there were old employees we already had in the system to rehire.

While he did that, he saw my resume and realized not only was I not some high schooler, I was a college grad who majored and went to the same school that his child is trying to get into now. This interested him and got him to call me in for a quick meeting.

During the meeting he basically tells me that the little that he knows of me is great. I'm really great with guests, a good worker, and now that he knows I have a degree in hospitality he offers to be a mentor to me. He told me if I ever wanted to try working in a different department in a managerial role I could and he would work it out to get me trained.

At the time, I really was set on not doing the typical hotel job though (I didn't tell him that) so I thanked him and kept it moving.

Somewhere in the middle of all of that, I met who is now my department lead--let's say his name is Tom. There was an error on my tax form so I had to go to him to ask about it. I asked my question, he answered, but as I was leaving I noticed he was playing a band that I really like so I said, "Nice, Pearl Jam! I love them!" He said something to the effect of "Me too" and that was it.

Maybe two weeks after the first meeting with the GM is when he called me back to his office to offer the new position to me.

During our meeting he mentions, "I'm going to be honest I wasn't even who requested you for the job, it was Tom who referred you. He said you're always very friendly and seemed like you would be a good fit."

The GM also said since he was able to meet me a couple weeks prior and got to know me a little bit he agreed with Tom that I would be a good person to reach out to.

Fast forward to my first day of work, Tom told me about an interaction we had months before where something was done wrong in my old position with our money count and I was apparently very adamant about fixing it and he really admired that and ever since then he thought I was great since I was making the extra effort.

He also mentioned that me liking Pearl Jam sold him.

To me, throughout that entire process, I just thought of how random it was they would choose me.

Of all the employees in the entire hotel, they chose me-- someone who had 0 experience for the job they wanted me for and someone who they didn't know at all.

Not only was I getting a new job, but I was getting a $4 raise and a job where I was basically my own boss because no one is hovering over me micromanaging what I do. I just kept telling myself don't question it, everything is working out and I shouldn't worry about the how. The how was revealed to me later but that didn't even matter at that point it was just nice to know.

#CONCLUSION

I'm sorry if all of this feels really thrown together and jumbled. I'm not the best at formatting stories when I'm writing. The point i'm trying to get across is that A LOT of things that I wasn't presently aware of had to happen in order for me to have the job that I have now. This has been the biggest example in my life that I can have whatever I want if I just act as if the life i'm living is the best life and that opportunities will find me that way. I got a whole new job when I wasn't even deliberately looking for one! They practically begged me since it was time sensitive that they fill the role.

For whoever needs to see this, at any moment you can decide to have the life you want. If you truly believe you are God, you'll stop creating the things that make you less than you.
