The comparisons between ace and grunt mecha almost remind me of Starcraft and Overwatch

General

Like one of the appeals of mecha anime and mecha games is noticing all sorts of differences between ace and grunt units, not only in-terms of their designs, but also their fighting styles. Ace units can solo grunts, but can't be replaced once destroyed, so they need to fight as much defensively and evasively as they would have offensively in order to survive each and every battle. Grunts, on the other hand, are mass-produced, expendable, and replaceable, and so long as they have a sufficient base and resources to defend with their lives, they can build and mass-produce more of themselves for war against an opposing faction.

For example, the original Mobile Suit Gundam back in 1979? There was only one Gundam, together with its sister units, the Guncannon and Guntank, as well as their ship, the White Base, so it needs to stay alive long enough for it to rout each and every Zeon grunt and ace suit. But once the final battle against Zeon was nigh, the Earth Federation's base of Jaburo would gather the combat data from the Gundam's past battles, and use it to build and mass-produce an otherwise expendable and replaceable army of RGM-79 GMs for one last raid against the Principality of Zeon at their space fortress of A Baoa Qu.

And nearly every time I look at these dynamics between these two types of units, and they make me think of Starcraft and Overwatch being developed in almost the same way. Starcraft has you as a CO commanding your own mass-produced, expendable army of units for war similar to grunts, and so long as you can build, expand, and defend your base and resources, you could build as many units as you need to eliminate the opposing side. But with Overwatch, much like with ace units, you're a soldier, out of a team of five them against another team of five, and there's only one of you each, so you need to heal and protect your teammates and vice versa long enough for you to rout the enemy and siege/defend the objective.

Like what individualism and collectivism are both like together, the former for irreplaceable ace suits that need to survive by defending and evading as they would destroy their enemies with various melee and ranged weapons, the latter for an expendable army that could build as many of themselves as they can for war, so long as they have a sufficient base and resources.
