Lessening side effects, should I still consider lowering dose?
Hi everyone, I got started on LDN at the beginning of January this year. I was started on 0.25 mg and was advised to up the dose by 0.25 mg each week.
I had a very strong reaction taking it the first time: I took it before bed and felt very wired, my thoughts were racing and I couldn't sleep. Slept maybe 1.5 hours. Tried this for 5 days and the side effects didn't lessen, so I changed to taking it in the morning.
I could sleep a bit better and after 3 days the side effects kind of lessened. At least enough to sleep OKish.
I tried upping the dose weekly, but couldn't as my sleep was disrupted for at least 3 days each time I upped the dose. So instead I did every 2 to 3 weeks.
I am now at 1.25 mg after lowering from 1.5 mg. My sleep is decent, in some ways better than before, but I still have trouble getting my hours in. I have noticed that I am VERY irritable and angry all the time. I get 'set off' by the smallest things and feel just pure rage and it takes hours, sometimes days to cool down. It is frustrating and tiring. It is not debilitating though.
I have now learned that starting at a lower dose might have been better. And to increase the dose at a much slower rate.
I am wondering if I could lessen this irritability by lowering the dose, or sort of starting over. Could any of you give your thoughts on this? I wish I had started lower and slower, but I don't want to undo all the positive effects I've had from LDN. It's been a HUGE help, I don't feel like I'm drowning anymore.
Tl;dr
Started at 0.25 mg. Had side effects that lessened after switching to morning dosing. Upped biweekly with 0.25 mg and had side effects for a few days each time. Currently at 1.25 mg and have mood issues. Very irritable and angry. Could lowering the dose slowly, or starting over at a much lower dose be beneficial? Other than this LDN has been a truly amazing help.
