My experience trying to get into the trades…
For some reason when you talk down on the trades you get downvoted or ridiculed. But I’ll share my experience trying working in the trades:
Union: got waitlisted. Too many applicants
Temp Agency: the company said they were looking for apprentices to work on a long term project. The long term project ended up getting delayed because of Tariffs for materials. I got sent to another job to do general labor. I asked my manager could I go back to the original job site and he said they already sent someone over there.
Amazon Data Center: I worked there for about a month. The problem with working for Amazon is that when there’s an issue at one data center all of the data centers shut down. I ended up not working for 2 weeks at one point. I had to get a part time job so I can pay my rent.
M.C Dean: the most stable compared to the previous two for electrical work. Then when the project was finished they wanted me to go 16 hours away from home in the Midwest and I wasn’t allowed to choose a location nearby.
This happened in 2024. I decided to go back to school. I work as a math tutor and it’s more stable than construction even though I work part time. I’ll be getting my degree in Engineering.
But hey don’t worry there’s going to be plenty of dipshits who say they make 150k a year and their work commute is 10 minutes away. They’ll say my experience isn’t valid.
