Would you enjoy a monthly envelope of lab humour and encouragement?

Hi everyone!

I finished my PhD in biochemistry, and one thing that really stuck with me was how easy it is to feel alone in research. Even when you're surrounded by people, it's common to think everyone else's experiments are working better than yours, or that you're the only one struggling.

I recently came across the idea of snail-mail subscriptions and started wondering whether something similar could work for researchers; not as another productivity tool, but simply as a small bit of encouragement.

Imagine receiving an envelope every month with things like:

  • a handwritten (or handwritten-style) encouraging note
  • a few science-themed stickers
  • a postcard
  • some lab humour or relatable science jokes

For example:

  • "Expectation: protein expression. Reality: inclusion bodies."
  • "May your western blot have bands today."
  • "You've survived Reviewer 2 before."

I'm not trying to sell anything: this is just an idea that popped into my head, and I'm genuinely curious what other researchers think.

Would something like this have brightened your week during your PhD, postdoc, or research career?

If so:

  • What would you actually want to receive?
  • Would you prefer funny, encouraging, or a mix of both?
  • Would a physical letter feel more special than an email or app?
  • Is there anything you've always wished existed for researchers that doesn't?

I'd really appreciate any honest thoughts, even if your answer is "I wouldn't be interested." I'm mostly trying to understand whether this is something other researchers would actually enjoy.
