I heckled a guy over his choice of car today
But in a positive way.
It was at a light-controlled pedestrian crossing. I was the pedestrian. As the lights turned red a Ford Mustang (quite a rare car, in the UK) gently pulled up and stopped at the red for me to cross.
The car was cream-coloured, with a blue stripe down the middle. Immaculately clean. Beautiful. And as it slowed down the engine purred. I have often heard the phrase "the engine purred" and kind of imagined what it would sound like, but the sound of this engine was what made me understand the old cliche. It genuinely had the quality of a gentle cat, soothing the car as it slowed to a stop.
It was clearly a car someone has put a lot of time and money into obtaining and maintaining.
It's hot today, so the driver had the window open. He appeared to be in a world of his own, waiting for the lights to turn green.
"Hey man," I called, he looked surprised unsure of why I might be grabbing your attention. "That's a beautiful car, dude, what a gorgeous machine you have."
He grinned a wide grin and give me a thumbs up. The lights went green. The engine revved up. I don't want to say it roared (another cliche, afterall) but it had a big-cat quality as it brought the car to life, and moved along his way.
I am still enjoying seeing his reaction.
