ADHD West (Kingston Medical Centre).
ADHDWest
ADHDWest is a GP-led ADHD assessment and management service in Galway, operating from Kingston Medical Centre in Knocknacarra. It serves adults aged 18 and above. The clinic accepts both self-referrals and GP referrals, with priority given to GP referrals.
The service is entirely in-person and structured around two visits. Visit 1 is a 30-minute health check with the practice nurse (physical exam, ECG, non-fasting bloods, ADHD screening questionnaire). Visit 2 is a 90-to-120 minute diagnostic interview with a GP trained in ADHD assessment through the UK Adult ADHD Network (UKAAN) and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, using the clinician-administered DIVA-5. Where a diagnosis is confirmed at Visit 2, a treatment plan is put in place; where medication is chosen, ongoing reviews are conducted at the clinic. Once a patient is stable, ongoing care can transfer to their own GP or remain at ADHDWest.
The site states an explicit exclusion: patients with a complex mental health history who suspect co-occurring ADHD are directed to a multidisciplinary service, which ADHDWest is not.

Assessment Process
Adult (18+)
- Book by phone or email. Self-referrals accepted; GP referrals prioritised
- Visit 1 (30 minutes, in-person, practice nurse). Virtual appointments are not available for Visit 1. Includes a physical examination (height, weight, BMI, pulse, blood pressure), an ECG, non-fasting bloods, an ADHD screening questionnaire, and a review of past medical history
- Visit 2 (90 to 120 minutes, in-person, with a GP trained in ADHD assessment). Comprehensive medical history taken, including previous mental health history, medications, personal history, and collateral history. The clinician-administered DIVA-5 (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults) is used to assess symptoms in both childhood and adulthood and their impact on the patient's life
- Where a diagnosis is confirmed at Visit 2, a treatment plan is put in place. This includes signposting to psychological supports and, where appropriate, medication options
- Medication reviews conducted at the clinic to find the effective medication and dose. Number of reviews required is not published
- Once stabilised, ongoing care can transfer to the patient's own GP, or remain at ADHDWest where the patient's GP cannot continue care
- Annual review of symptoms and medication, using standardised rating scales

Health Checks
Yes, included. The pre-medication physical checks (blood pressure, heart rate, an ECG, and non-fasting bloods) are performed by the practice nurse at Visit 1, before the diagnostic interview at Visit 2. There is no separate GP visit for health checks required before ADHDWest will prescribe.
This matters: Health checks (blood pressure, heart rate, an ECG, and where indicated bloods) are a clinical and regulatory requirement before a stimulant prescription can be safely initiated. Where a provider performs these in-house at the start of the pathway (as ADHDWest does), the patient is not required to arrange a separate GP visit before medication can start. Bringing the checks forward to before the diagnostic interview means the physical workup is complete regardless of whether medication is subsequently prescribed.
Assessment Types
- In-person only. Virtual appointments are not available for Visit 1; Visit 2 is also in-person
- GP-led. Both diagnosing clinicians hold UKAAN training and Royal College of Psychiatrists ADHD training
- Clinician-administered DIVA-5 (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults) as the primary diagnostic tool
- No QbTest or QbCheck mentioned on the site
- Age range: 18 and above
- Explicit exclusion: patients with a complex mental health history and suspected co-occurring ADHD are directed to a multidisciplinary service. ADHDWest states it does not offer this
Transferring an Existing Diagnosis
Not addressed on the site. There is no published pathway for accepting an existing external ADHD diagnosis for medication continuation.
| Stage | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer of existing diagnosis | not published | The clinic's published pathway is a full assessment across Visit 1 and Visit 2. A transfer-only pathway is not described |
Patients holding an existing external ADHD diagnosis should contact the clinic before booking to confirm what pathway is available.
Other Services
Ongoing medication reviews after Visit 2, annual review with standardised rating scales, and shared-care handover to the patient's own GP once stable are all part of the ADHDWest ADHD service and are described under Assessment Process above.
Kingston Medical Centre itself is a general practice offering services outside ADHD (Women's Health, Men's Health, Paediatrics, Occupational Health, Dermatology, Travel Vaccines). These are not part of ADHDWest and are not covered here.

Notes.
1. Fees for Visit 1, Visit 2, medication reviews, and the annual review are not published on their webpage. One user mentioned a price of €950 for assessment. I would advise contacting ADHDWest for prices.
