I’m a postgraduate student at Goldsmiths, University of London, conducting my MSc dissertation research, and I’m looking for participants to take part in a short online survey. I’d really appreciate your help!

🔍 What is this study about?

This research explores how UK university students use ChatGPT for emotional support or mental health purposes, and whether these experiences are related to their tendency to seek professional psychological help.

👥 Who should take part?

•	🇬🇧 Currently living in the UK and enrolled at a UK university

•	📚 Undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral student — all levels welcome!

•	🎂 Aged 18–70

•	💬 Have used ChatGPT at least once for emotional support, stress management, or mental health purposes

📋 About the survey

•	⏱️ Takes approximately 15–20 minutes

•	Includes questions about your ChatGPT usage habits, perceptions, and experiences

•	Some questions are open-ended and ask you to share examples of real ChatGPT conversations related to mental health — these are entirely optional and can be skipped

🔒 How will your data be stored, used, and published?

•	All data is collected fully anonymously — no names, email addresses, or identifying information will be collected or retained

•	Data will be stored securely and used solely for academic research purposes

•	Data will be retained for a maximum of 5 years after the study is complete, in line with Goldsmiths University policy, and then securely destroyed

•	Findings will be written up as part of an MSc dissertation and may be submitted for publication in an academic journal — no individual will be identifiable in any published results

•	Data is processed under GDPR Article 6 (“task carried out in the public interest”) and Article 9 for health-related data

🔐 Withdrawal of data

At the start of the survey, you will be asked to create a unique ID. If you wish to withdraw your data after completing the survey, please contact me at bgurd001@gold.ac.uk with your unique ID within two weeks of completion and your data will be deleted, no questions asked.

By clicking the survey link and proceeding past the consent page, you confirm that:

•	You have read and understood the information above

•	You are 18 years of age or older

•	You meet the eligibility criteria

•	You voluntarily agree to participate

•	You understand you may withdraw your data within two weeks using your unique ID

A full Participant Information Sheet and Consent Form are provided at the beginning of the survey.
