Update: I took the advice from here and it completely changed how I approached my next video

A few days ago I posted here asking whether I was wasting my time making exploration videos about ordinary places in the UK. I was in a genuinely rough place with it at the time. I had put a lot of time into filming places I found interesting, then started wondering whether I was basically making videos nobody would ever care enough to watch.

The replies were much more useful than I expected. A lot of people said the problem was not necessarily the places themselves, it was giving viewers a reason to care about them. The support was fascinating and I can’t thank this subreddit enough!

I took that seriously on my next trip.

I went to a small town called Tring expecting an ordinary English High Street, but ended up finding a whole story about the Rothschild family, a natural-history museum built for Walter Rothschild, and an unexpected connection to George Washington’s family. I’ve now implemented story telling & a purpose of the videos.

So thank you to the people who gave thoughtful advice on the original post. It genuinely pulled me out of a bit of a hole and really provided me the motivation and support I needed. To put the impact it had into words wouldn’t be doing it any justice. It not only restored my own self confidence, but my belief in community and people.

Thank you ❤️👊🏽
