Digital Dash and HUD issues (they go black)
Hello you wonderful people.
I have a question for the community.
I have a 2021 LCI2 Cooper S with a digital dash and HUD.
Until recently, the last month or so the digital dash and HUD turn off while driving. Center console is fine and remains active.
The Mini was in the service center last week. They could tell from their diagnostics that they were turning off. They said they couldn’t identify the issue and would do a software update to fix the issue which obviously has not fixed the issue.
Here is what usually happens and why I think it’s a loose connection as opposed to an issue with the dash itself.
- It’s intermittent. If the dash was dead it would be dead.
- The dash and the HUD suffer the same black out at the same time. This leads me to believe it’s a loose cable and not a fault with the dash or the HUD.
- The dash will flash on and off before turning/going off.
- Timing is totally random. It can happen 2, 12, 49 mins into a drive. 10 secs after starting the car. Or not at all.
- It works perfectly fine after the car has stopped and been restarted. It also doesn’t matter if I stop for 2 mins, 1 hours, overnight. It will work when I start the car again.
Mini (UK) have quoted me £900 to replace the dash but I refuse to accept this as the dash is not faulty or broken. Something else is going on. If the dash went off and the HUD stayed on I’d be inclined to agree but this is not the case.
Also please bear in mind I have a logical mind but I’m also not claiming to be an expert hence the post.
Has anyone has this issues before, heard about it, know why it might be happening or be able to point me in the right direction.
Forking out £900 plus labour is just not feasible.
Thank you!
