Husband is not always wiping babies bottom after diaper change…
Some context, my (30f) husband (31m) is a great partner and father! He has been amazing throughout my whole pregnancy and these past several months with a newborn. Our son is almost 5 months and is a happy and healthy baby. We really lucked out with him as he has been a very easy baby so far.
Now on to the issue at hand…Yesterday my husband brought the baby up to get changed into his pajamas and to change his diaper one last time before bed. I was with him in the nursery folding and putting away the babies laundry. Earlier that day I had moved some things around and so the wipes were in a different place than normal. I didn’t think to tell him until he already had the new diaper on and was buttoning up the pajamas. Only then did it dawn on me that he never used a wipe and so I asked him why he didn’t and he said he only peed a small amount(which he did) and that he just tossed the soiled diaper and put on the fresh one and did not feel like a wipe was needed. I ALWAYS use a wipe to clean my son’s private parts no matter if he peed or pooped and no matter if it is a little or a lot. I think it is just good practice to maintain cleanliness. My husband is happy to do whatever is best for baby and did not get defensive or anything but it honestly shocked me and made me question if others don’t always wipe with each diaper change?
I grew up helping out with babies and have a lot more experience than my husband but he is eager to learn and has read some baby books and such. He asks a ton of questions and had the nurses show him again and again how to properly care for our son through our entire stay at the hospital so I know and trust that he will do whatever is best for our son. Not looking for comments or feedback on my husband… just wondering if other people don’t always wipe after baby has peed their diaper and if maybe I am wiping too much? Baby shows no evidence of rash or skin irritation and is regularly bathed.
